Gingrich: Obama ‘the most aggressively pro-abortion president in history’
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Sunday accused President Barack Obama of being
“I think the difference between Romney and Ryan and Obama and Biden is extraordinary, he told Democracy Now’s Deena Guzder and Amy Littlefield. “Obama is the most aggressively pro-abortion president in history. His position as a state senator on doctors killing babies that were born alive is astonishing.”
“You look at the Democratic Party platform, which is essentially for taxpayer-funded partial birth abortions on demand. It’s pretty hard for me to see how anybody who is right-to-life could have any question about which ticket would be better.”
Obama has been condemned by pro-life activists for voting against a so-called “born alive” bill as an Illinois state senator. Obama said he opposed the legislation because it threatened women’s right to an abortion and could have allowed doctors to be sued for failing to save the lives of pre-viable infants. The National Journal noted that at the time, Illinois already had laws to ensure infants who survived abortions would be given medical attention.
“I don’t see how any reasonable person can suggest that there will not be dramatically more abortions under Obama than there would be under a Romney-Ryan administration,” Gingrich added.
When asked about Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO), who created a firestorm by claiming women couldn’t get pregnant from “legitimate rape,” Gingrich said he was “not getting into that.”
