UPDATE [3:55 p.m]:
A spokesman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives identified the suspected gunman as Radcliffe Haughton, 45, of Brown Deer, Wisconsin. ATF and FBI agents have joined local law enforcement officers in the investigation, and are still searching for the suspected shooter.
According to local news reports, police surrounded Haughton’s home Sunday afternoon, though it was unknown if he was inside. Police are also searching inside businesses near where the shooting took place for any sign of the suspect.
The ATF spokesman also confirmed to CNN that seven people were shot at the spa, with witnesses saying the suspect opened fire inside the establishment before fleeing. There is still no confirmed motive for the attacks, though police said Haughton’s estranged wife works at the spa where the shooting took place.
At least seven people were injured in a shooting in Brookfield, Wisconsin Sunday, with rescue crews and tactical law enforcement officials swarming a local mall in search of what they believe is a lone gunman.
The situation is still ongoing, but early reports indicate that police are searching for a single suspect who is possibly holed up inside the Brookfield Square Mall. The condition of the seven victims is not entirely known, though a hospital spokeswoman told CNN that four patients appeared to have non-critical injuries.
That spokeswoman could not confirm whether the injuries were inflicted by gunshots. Another three victims were reportedly en route to the hospital as of 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department told the AP that authorities are looking for a six foot-tall black male, though they offered no other details about the suspected shooter. The incident reportedly took place shortly after 11 a.m. across the street from the mall at the Azana Spa, where at least one witness indicated a man opened fire with a high powered weapon, possibly a machine gun. By the time media arrived on the scene, police had cordoned off the mall’s parking lot, and SWAT officers had taken up positions around the building.
It is believed that no shots were fired inside the mall, though police have yet to confirm those reports. According to local TV station WISN, witnesses saw one woman “crawl” out of the spa with apparent gunshot wounds. That woman was reportedly ushered into an emergency vehicle and rushed away for treatment.
It is yet unclear how and when the other victims were injured. The station also reported that the FBI confirmed it was sending a response team to aid in the crisis response effort.
