Police in Jersey City said Tuesday that a man arrested over the weekend during a PCP overdose later defecated in a police vehicle, attempted to gnaw through his own wrist and then ate one of his fingers as he sat in a jail cell.

Jargget Washington, 29, was charged Sunday night with attempted carjacking and what The Jersey Journal called "throwing bodily fluids at law enforcement officers," both apparently symptomatic of his dissociative state.

A stark-naked Washington allegedly jumped on top of a car and tried to pull the driver out before police arrived just before 8 p.m. Once in cuffs, the Journal says he began chewing on one of his wrists.

Police had to secure him in a hood and leg irons after that, but officers said he later managed to chew off and swallow one of his own fingers while unattended in a jail cell. Authorities said he was cleared by medical personnel before being placed in the cell.

The New Jersey Department of Corrections said Washington has several other drug-related convictions on his record going back to 2007.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) says that PCP users often experience symptoms similar to schizophrenia, including "delusions, hallucinations, disordered thinking," and "extreme anxiety."
