Terror suspect in custody for alleged plot to attack the Federal Reserve in NYC
Federal authorities have arrested a man in a sting operation who they say was planning a terrorist attack on the Federal Reserve building in Lower Manhattan, mere blocks from the site of the former World Trade Center.
According to New York’s NBC Channel 4, the Jamaica, Queens man was arrested after he drove a van that undercover law enforcement officials told him was loaded with explosives from Long Island to the Financial District. The suspect parked the van near the Federal Reserve and was apprehended by FBI agents and officers of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) shortly thereafter.
The two agencies assured Channel 4 that the so-called explosives were inert and that the public was never in any danger.
The New York Daily News (NYDN) reported that the man was a Bangladeshi national who was the target of a joint sting operation by the NYPD and the FBI.
