Jonathan Phelps, a member of the notoriously anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church, said Wednesday that the legalization of same sex marriage in the United States was inevitable.

He explained on The David Pakman Show that marriage equality was a "fait accompli" because the Supreme Court was going to "mandate" it soon.

Phelps also said that, based on Biblical teachings, LGBT individuals should be put to death by the government. But when asked about Deuteronomy 22:13-21, which says a woman should be put to death if she cannot prove she was a virgin before marrying her husband, Phelps said it was a matter between the spouses.

"Well, isn't it interesting Jonathan... Leviticus and Deuteronomy are both pretty clear about the abomination of consuming shellfish, isn't it interesting how on the putting homosexuals to death you are very, very hard-line," Pakman noted. "But when it comes to stoning the non-virgins and you know that in your own family, your sister has this child out of wedlock, there's a lot of places where the people on your side say, 'well, you know, it is if this and if that' and so on and so forth. There is a lot of equivocation, but not on homosexuality."

The Westboro Baptist Church believes that God is punishing the United States because of America’s acceptance of homosexuality, and has gained infamy for picketing the funerals of public figures and military members. The Westboro Baptist Church, which only has a few dozen members, is typically drowned out by counter protesters.
