Four area dead and 17 injured after a train hit a float carrying wounded veterans in a Texas parade, reported the AP. The float was driving across a railroad crossing en route to a banquet. Seven are in critical condition while the others are stable.
The accident occurred around 4:40 p.m. in Midland, Texas. It appears that the crossing gates and the lights were operational at the time the float, which carried a banner reading “Heroes on Board,” crossed.
“There is going to be a very thorough investigation,” said Union Pacific spokesperson Tom Lange. “It’s obviously a very tragic incident.”
