On an episode of Nightline to air on Dec. 21, N.Y.C. Mayor Michael Bloomberg discussed the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., and gun control policy in the U.S.

When asked what he would like to say to the NRA, Bloomberg said, "In fact, Connecticut is because of some of their [the NRA's] actions," although he also said, "Well, I hold you and me responsible...I don't absolve you or me, all of us" are responsible.

"We have let our society degenerate -- our country degenerate to the point where we have a murder rate that you cannot compare it to other countries," he said.

If he could have his way, Bloomberg said he would ban all automatic and semi-automatic guns, as well as high-capacity magazines.

He also called out President Obama for signing legislation that allows people to carry guns in national parks and on Amtrak. "I assume that's to stop the rash of train robberies, which I thought stopped in the 1800s," he quipped.
