After Palestine’s successful bid to become a non-member observer of the Untied Nations, Israel is withholding $120 million in tax revenue it collected for the Palestinian Authority, reported Newsy.
Israel is claiming it will use the money to pay for Palestinian debt to the country, but now the Palestinian Authority says that without that substantial chunk of its budget, it will not be able to pay government officials.
The move is not unprecedented, as Israel has previously withheld money from Palestinian organizations when diplomatic tensions rise. Israel also claims that the move for U.N. status constituted a “leapfrogging” of negotiations.
