David Axelrod is a new man. Or, at least a slightly less hairy one.

In the wake of President Barack Obama's decisive electoral win over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R), the president's top political adviser didn't have to shave off his hair lip. He did, after all, win his highly publicized bet with Joe Scarborough over which swing states Obama would win.

But since Scarborough and fellow MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski helped raise $1 million for Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy, a charity Axelrod created, he decided to go through with it anyway.

So, on Friday morning, Axelrod lost his trademark 'stache of 40 years on live television, courtesy of "Steve from eShave," a set of electric clippers, a little shaving cream and a straight razor.

"I was not going to let Joe Scarborough near my neck with a straight razor," he quipped.

Susan Axelrod added that she's never seen her husband without a mustache.

"I've been staring at it for 40 years," Axelrod said. "I'm very attached to it. I was up all night, I'll be honest with you. It's a little unsettling. But like I said, people have lost a lot more than mustaches [to epilepsy]."
