Conservative personality Glenn Beck last week announced grandiose plans to construct a self-sustaining "city-theme park hybrid" that would reflect traditional American values.

The city, to be called "Independence," draws heavily from ideas espoused by Walt Disney and libertarian novelist Ayn Rand. The project is expected to cost more than $2 billion.

Beck explained on Blaze TV that the city would contain a marketplace, media center, farm, and residential areas. A religious center with architecture modeled on The Alamo would dominate the center of the city while the front gate to the city would be modeled on Ellis Island.

Beck also said various forms of education would be made available at the city, from apprenticeships to theme-park style exhibits to neighbor-driven schooling. He encouraged parents to send their children to the city to "deprogram" them before they attended college. Politicians could also visit the city to learn "the truth."
