Jacob Cox-Brown’s friends didn’t like his New Year’s Day Facebook post — which said he had driven drunk — enough. In fact, they didn’t like it enough to report him to local police.
According to ABC News, the 18-year-old Astoria, Oregon man’s post, “Drivin drunk… classsic ;) [sic] but to whoever’s vehicle i [sic] hit i [sic] am sorry. :P” was caught by at least one friend, who passed it along to Officer Nicole Riley. Riley said she was alerted to Brown’s post following a report of a hit-and-run incident that left two parked cars damaged.
Local police said in a statement they found a vehicle at Brown’s house that matched the damage found at the scene and arrested him. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 23 to face charges of “failing to perform the duties of a driver.”
Despite this, Brown denied being arrested for drunk driving, and said the post has only sparked a misunderstanding. The reason he hit the cars, he said, was icy conditions on the road.
“The people who called me out — they’re obviously not my friends, you know?” Brown told KATU-TV. “True friends, like I said, they know me. They know I’m a sarcastic (bleeped). They laughed about it. I’ve posted shit like that on there, and it’s never blown up like this.”
The station also reported that Brown has been arrested before on charges of burglary and criminal mischief.
