A woman is being held at the Lubbock County Detention Center after she reportedly set her apartment on fire because it was the "will of God" and then assaulted a police officer.
According to KCDB, Deputy Fire Marshal Robert Loveless said that Cynthia Lynn Parchman was suspected of intentionally setting fire to her apartment early Tuesday morning.
"God told her to do it," one witness reportedly told Loveless.
Marcus Carrillo, who also lives at the apartment complex, said he had spoken to Parchman on Monday and she told him that her burning cigarette was also the "will of God."
"She lighted up a cigarette and she put it in her hand and she goes, 'Okay, I want you to hold it,'" Carrillo recalled. "I was like, 'Okay.' So, she put it in my hand, she goes, 'Do you feel anything?' I was like, 'No.' She goes, 'That's the will of god.'"
As of Tuesday afternoon, no bond had been set and Parchman was being held on charges resisting arrest. Additional arson charges were also pending.
