A Hialeah, Florida police sergeant said on Sunday that his arrest on drug charges is the result of a love story.

"I met a girl, she happens to have a pimp and we fell in love," 41-year-old Tomas Muñoz told WFOR-TV after posting $6,000 bail on charges of possessing cocaine and drug paraphernalia. "He doesn't let her be free. I mean, this came about because he set the whole thing up."

Muñoz, who has been on the force since 1998, was arrested in Miami on Saturday. The Spanish-language newspaper El Nuevo Herald reported that he was also under investigation by his department's Internal Affairs bureau for a series of unexplained absences.

"The arrest this morning is the culmination of an investigation that began several weeks ago," a department spokesperson said after Muñoz was picked up.

Muñoz, who refused to address both that investigation and the case against him on Sunday, has been relieved of his duties pending the results of the case.

"I deal with everything as it comes," he said after his release. "The present moment. Right now I'm dealing with this moment right here and I'm good. I'm going to be good no matter what."
