Los Angeles police dug up a yard on Thursday reportedly searching for clues in the disappearance of Wendy Byron, who vanished in 1978 when she was just 24-years-old.
CBS Los Angeles reported Wednesday, when police first converged on the house, that a forensic team was on the site with high tech equipment that can search for human remains underneath the ground, along with the tools needed for excavation if anything was found.
It’s not clear what triggered the search of the property, which was formerly owned by Byron’s husband, and authorities are staying mum.
“Detectives have concluded their search of the location for this evening, but will return tomorrow at 7 a.m. with the Special Operations Team from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, to continue their investigation,” a police spokesperson told The San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
Byron’s husband told her family in 1987 that she disappeared after the two had a disagreement, and her car was later found at a nearby airport.
