Award-winning baseball player Alex Rodriguez is among more than 20 heavy hitters facing suspension for doping in the coming weeks, according to a report by ESPN.
Anonymous sources told the sports network that the suspensions spring from an investigation into the owner of Biogenesis of America, which sold supplements to MLB players. Owner Tony Bosch has reportedly agreed to work with investigators and testify against his former clients.
Rodriguez and fellow star baseballer Ryan Braun are just two of the players who could be facing up to 100-game suspensions, but there may be more. Bosch’s sworn statements will help back up documents showing names of players investigators have found while digging through the company’s paperwork, but he’s expected to name even more key MLB figures when he meets with league officials on Friday.
Bosch’s legal team is pushing to have the league drop a lawsuit filed against him in March and put in a good word for him with law enforcement. It’s not clear what criminal sanctions he may face, if any.
