Members of the Taliban claimed responsibility for a suicide car bombing near the U.S. consulate in Herat, Afghanistan, that killed one person, the Associated Press reported Thursday night.
The attackers also reportedly got into a firefight with security forces near the building. The city is in Afghanistan's western region, where attacks have become more frequent.
Herad provincial governor Sayed Fazlullah Wahidi told the AP that the bomber reportedly set his explosive off around 66 yards away from the compound, followed by gunfire from his comrades.
