One student is dead, and another three injured, after a fight that police suspect was gang-related broke out in a north Houston high school. An unidentified 17-year-old died at the scene, while a 16-year-old was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.
According to an automated telephone alert that went to parents of Spring High School students, another two students were injured in the fight. Three "persons of interest" are in custody, according to Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia, who also told KHOU Houston that no further arrests would be likely. All victims and persons of interest were students enrolled at Spring High School.
The incident was first reported shortly after 7 a.m., and the school remained in lockdown until well after 12:15 p.m. Less than a minute after the 7:10 a.m. attack, another Spring student tweeted a photograph of blood on the floor. The student was apparently unaware that a stabbing had occurred, but when informed, tweeted "Oh, I feel safe at Spring[.]"
