WATCH: Tucker Carlson abruptly ends interview after ex-NYPD officer schools him on Derek Chauvin's unjustified use of force
On Tuesday, April 20, a jury found former Minneapolis police officer guilty of three charges in connection with the May 25, 2020 killing of Georgia Floyd: second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Far-right Fox News pundit Tucker Carlson, the night of April 20, discussed the verdict with Ed Gavin — a former deputy sheriff with the New York City Sheriff's Department — and Carlson brought the interview to an abrupt end when he didn't like Gavin's analysis.
Carlson asked Gavin to weigh in on "what this means for law enforcement," posing the question, "Who's going to become a cop going forward, do you think?" Gavin responded, "I think people will still become police officers. This really is a learning experience for everyone. Let's face it: what we say in that video was pure savagery. I mean, the documentary evidence showed the police officer putting his knee on the perpetrator's neck while he was rear-cuffed and his stomach was on the ground, causing positional asphyxia."
Gavin continued, "What I'd like to see is more training for police. I'd like to see the police trained as EMTs, like in the fire department."
The former law enforcement officer went on to say that although he "used force" on hundreds of people during his decades in law enforcement, he "never had anybody go unconscious."
Gavin told Carlson, "That was clearly an excessive, unjustified use of force. I think the verdict was just…. It was an open-and-shut case."
That was when Carlson grew angry and defensive, asking Gavin, "Do we enforce the law?" And Carlson implied that police will no longer be able to protect the public, telling Gavin, "The guy who did it looks like he's going to spend the rest of his life in prison. I'm kind of more worried about the rest of the country, which thanks to police inaction — in case you haven't noticed — is like, boarded up. So, that's more my concern."
And when Gavin tried to speak, Carlson abruptly ended the interview, saying, "Nope, done."

Trump's legacy is being humiliatingly defeated by $5 ladders: 'Unlike the wall, these are functional'
Former President Donald Trump's purportedly impenetrable border wall is reportedly getting beaten by the simplest of means.
A new report from Texas Monthly claims that the United States Border Patrol finds itself constantly having to destroy cheap $5 ladders that it finds left on the side of the wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
In fact, the Border Patrol destroys so many ladders that it regularly has to call the city of Hidalgo, Texas to haul away the piles of lumber that are produced by the destroyed ladders.
Scott Nicol, a local artist and activist, tells Texas Monthly that the ladders used by undocumented immigrants to enter the United States show just how useless Trump's most beloved infrastructure project really is.
"Unlike the wall, these ladders are functional," explains Nicol, who adds that "border walls are just backdrops for politicians who want to rile up their voters."
Chris Cabrera, a McAllen-based Border Patrol agent and local spokesperson for the National Border Patrol Council, nonetheless defended the border wall in an interview with Texas Monthly and said that the structure at least slows down undocumented immigrants and gives Border Patrol agents more time to apprehend them.
Judge Emmet Sullivan cites Donald Trump's 'continued' election lies as reason not to release rioter
Federal judge Emmet Sullivan this week cited former President Donald Trump's recent statements about the 2020 election as a reason not to allow the release of a man who allegedly took part in the failed insurrection of Jan. 6.
In a 39-page opinion filed on Tuesday, Sullivan explained why he was denying the release of Jack Wade Whitton, who is charged with eight felonies and misdemeanors relating to the Jan. 6 events. Whitton is accused of "brutally" assaulting officers who were guarding the U.S. Capitol.
"[T]he Court concludes that clear and convincing evidence supports a finding that no condition or combination of conditions will reasonably assure the safety of the community," Sullivan explains in the opinion. "Accordingly, the Court orders that Mr. Whitton be detained pending trial."
Sullivan goes on to cite recent statements made by Trump to bolster his point.
"Former President Donald J. Trump continues to make forceful public comments about the 'stolen election,' chastising individuals who did not reject the supposedly illegitimate results that put the current administration in place," the opinion states, noting that Trump had issued an April 4 statement about a "rigged" presidential election.
Sullivan adds: "As was true in Mr. [Jeffrey Sabol's] case, such comments reflect the continued threat posed by individuals like Mr. Whitton, who has demonstrated that he is willing and able to engage in extreme and terrifying levels of violence against law enforcement with a chilling disregard for the rule of law and the lives of law enforcement, seemingly based on mistaken beliefs about the illegitimacy of the current administration. In this regard, Mr. Whitton, like Mr. Sabol, is distinguishable from other Capitol Riot defendants who displayed a dangerous distain for democracy and the rule of law on January 6, 2021, but who did not engage in violence... or who did not direct their 'forceful conduct' toward inflicting injury."
"Accordingly, the government's motion for revocation of Magistrate Judge Cannon's release order is GRANTED. Mr. Whitton shall be detained pending trial," the opinion concludes.
