Another restaurant customer apparently thinks it’s OK to stiff your server on a tip if you suspect she’s a lesbian.
Server Dayna Morales said a family dining at Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, New Jersey, deliberately skipped the tip on their $93.55 bill and left her a rude note.
“It says, ‘I’m sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle and how you live your life,'” Morales said.
Morales, a former Marine who’s frequently waited tables over the past 10 years, said she never told the family she was a lesbian, but they made insulting comments to her right away.
“(I made a) normal introduction, ‘My name is Dayna. I’ll be taking care of you.’ Right away the mom looked at me and said, ‘I thought you were going to say your name was Dan,'” Morales said.
She discovered the note written on the bill after the family had left and sent it to the “Have a Gay Day” Facebook page, where it’s drawn more than 2,000 comments.
Morales said the incident offended her and made her angry.
“I didn’t know how to react to that,” Morales said. “I never thought that would ever happen.”
A server at a Kansas City chain restaurant reported a similar incident last month, when a family thanked him for his “excellent” service but refused to tip him because he’s gay.
“We cannot in good conscience tip you, for your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to GOD,” they wrote in a note left on their table. “Queers do not share in the wealth of GOD, and you will not share in ours. We hope you will see the tip your queer choices made you lose out on, and plan accordingly. It is never too late for GOD’s love, but none shall be spared for queers. May GOD have mercy on you.”
