We had the very great fortune to see the amazing Audra McDonald in concert a few weeks ago and she was wonderful and warm and funny and in a word: glorious. For me, the highlight of the evening was when she performed Adam Gwon’s extraordinary I’ll Be Here from Ordinary Days. It was the one song during the evening that provoked a response from the audience while she was still singing, which is to say an audible gasp mid-song followed by a lot of post-applause sniffling.
As much as I love McDonald’s version (which can be viewed here), I’m a bigger fan of Ordinary Days Lisa Brescia’s cabaret-style version because the simplicity of her delivery makes it so damn moving:
Well, now, that was cheery, wasn’t it?
