An 18-year-old Pennsylvania man was arrested Friday for the brutal beating and rape of an elderly Catholic nun.
Police claim that Andrew Bullock approached the 85-year-old retired nun in the parking lot of St. Titus Church in Aliquippa and asked her if she needed help. When she indicated that she didn't, Bullock allegedly exposed his genitals.
When she attempted to walk away, he grabbed her by the neck and began to choke her with one hand while he beat her with the other. He then sexually assaulted her.
The nun couldn't speak when police arrived, as her jaw had been dislocated in the attack, but she did communicate to them that she had been raped. Authorities claim that police identified Bullock as the suspect through the description given by the nun, as well as shoe imprints he left at the scene.
According to court documents, Bullock has been charged with felony rape, aggravated assault and sexual assault, and misdemeanor charges of indecent exposure, simple assault and reckless endangerment.
In a statement released by the Sisters of St. Joseph, the retired nun is referred to as "a passionate advocate of nonviolence, peace and justice, and each month she conducts a prayer vigil for peace in the chapel of our Motherhouse."
The statement went on to say that "[a]s we offer continued prayers of healing for our Sister, we also pray for the young man who has been arrested in the assault."
