A Chilton County, Alabama, grand jury has indicted a former teacher and cheerleading coach on eight counts of rape and sodomy of a minor.

Jennifer Collins McNeill, 39, was arrested last year and charged with six counts of rape and two counts of sodomy of a juvenile male. According to WBRC, some of the alleged encounters took place on school grounds.

McNeill is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with the sixteen year-old student who did not attend the school where she taught. After her arrest, McNeill was placed on administrative leave by the school district and has since resigned her position.

"It's embarrassing for the schools system, and it's not fun for anybody involved, but it's something that we have to face now and, based on her choices, here we go," said Chief Deputy District Attorney C.J. Robinson.

McNeill's attorney declines to comment on her client and the pending charges, saying it would be premature at this point.

She is currently out on bond from her August arrest and is scheduled for an arraignment March 10.

Should McNeill be convicted, she faces two to twenty years in prison for each of the eight counts.
