New York woman charged with rape for sexual contact with teen boy

Authorities in upstate New York charged a 21-year-old woman with rape last week after she was accused of sexual contact with a boy younger than 15 years old.

Alexa Garnett, of Glens Falls, was charged with second-degree rape and second-degree criminal sexual act, both felonies, and one misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Washington County sheriff’s deputies said Garnett had three sexual encounters with the teen, who authorities said was too young to legally consent.

The age of consent in New York is 17 years old.
