A 59-year-old Florida man was held without bond for allegedly forcing his way into his estranged wife’s home and shooting her and another person in front of the couple’s five-year-old son, WFOR-TV reported on Tuesday.
“My dad shot one time on my mom on the stomach,” the boy, Mike Garcia, told reporters with his family’s consent. “My mom was bleeding, bleeding a lot.”
Authorities said the boy was in the room when his father, Hector Garcia, forced his way inside Jeannette Montejo’s home Monday night, and shot her in the abdominal area. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was listed in serious condition as of Tuesday evening.
The suspect also allegedly shot Montejo’s 58-year-old boyfriend, Abraham Rodriguez, in the neck and chest before leaving the home. Rodriguez was listed in critical condition. Mike Garcia has been placed in the care of other relatives. The couple’s other son, an unidentified 15-year-old, was not present during the incident.
“She’s a good mom,” Mike Garcia told reporters. “But that’s why my dad was going to kill her. That’s why I don’t like my Dad and why I told police officers what happened to my mom.”
Besides being denied bond, the suspect was ordered on Tuesday to stay away from both Montejo and Rodriguez. Court documents also indicate that Hector Garcia owes Montejo around $800. WTVJ-TV reported that Montejo filed for separation from the suspect last month. Hector Garcia was arrested at his home.
