On last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live, show regulars Beck Bennett and Vanessa Bayer starred in an infomercial for the CNN Pregnancy Test that mocked the network’s ‘relentless’ coverage of downed Flight MH370.
“We didn’t want a pregnancy test that just gave us a simple ‘Yes’ or ‘No,'” Beck says as the infomercial begins.
“We wanted more information,” Bayer chimes in.
“And when it comes to giving information, there’s only one name we trust to give it to us constantly,” says Beck.
“That’s why we use the new CNN take-home Pregnancy Test,” Bayer replies. “Its relentless breaking alerts let us know that it’s working hard to find out if we’re having a baby.”
“BREAKING!” the CNN Pregnancy Test announces. “SEARCH FOR PREGNANCY UNDERWAY.”
“As CNN slowly analyzes my urine,” Bayer says, “it updates me on its ‘BREAKING NEWS’ screen.”
“BREAKING! SEARCH FOR PREGNANCY CONTINUES.”
“CNN believes,” adds Beck, “that we deserve all the information they can find.”
“BREAKING! CNN MORE CONFIDENT THAN EVER THAT IT WILL SOON KNOW IF YOU’RE PREGNANT.”
“Even,” Beck continues, “if that information is no information.”
“BREAKING! SEARCH FOR PREGNANCY ENTERS THIRD WEEK.”
The network has been widely mocked for its constant coverage of Flight MH370, but its ratings among the key 25- to 54-year-old demographic increased as it devoted ever more coverage to the missing plane.
