An honor-roll student in Norfolk, Virginia told police that he killed his parents because they punished him by "taking away [his] iPod and stuff."
According to the stipulation of facts presented to a judge on Wednesday, on December 19, 2013, Vincent Parker attacked his mother, Carol, with pepper spray as she exited the bathroom. He then stabbed her in the eye and beat her about her face with a baseball bat twenty-five times, "until she stopped breathing."
Vincent then waited until his father, Wayne, returned home and attacked him with a crowbar. Wayne Parker survived the initial attack, managing to call 911, but later died of his injuries at the hospital.
His grandfather, Allen Taylor, told WTKR that he has no idea why his grandson suddenly snapped. "He is a smart young man. He is smart in school. I don’t know what happened."
Vincent Parker told detectives that "I just remember getting mad. It's all from my dad. All this stuff like my dad taking away my iPod and stuff."
His defense attorney, Emily Munn, said at the stipulation of facts that a psychiatric evaluation determined that Vincent Parker was both sane and intelligent. He is being sentenced as an adult, but Munn hopes to convince the court to have the sixteen-year-old serve part of his sentence at a juvenile facility.
Parker is set to be sentenced on September 18, 2014.
