An Adams County, Colorado sheriff’s deputy is under arrest for allegedly raping his estranged wife.
According to the Aurora Police Department, Belmont’s estranged wife went to his home on Tuesday. “Jason Belmont…told her that she had some mail at the S. Waco Way address and that he would also give her some money,” the criminal affidavit read.
“She added that she has wanted a divorce from Jason Belmont since October 2003, but Jason Belmont will not agree to a divorce unless she gives up custody of their children.”
Once at the home, the children went outside to play, Belmont went upstairs to repair a toilet, and the victim laid down on the couch to rest. Belmont allegedly came downstairs, picked her up off the couch and carried her into a bedroom, where he attempted to sexually assault her. She told him she was “not interested” and repeatedly said “stop.”
The victim tried to turn on a digital recorder she had been carrying so that she could record their arguments, but that only inflamed Belmont’s anger. “Jason Belmont became very angry after finding the recorder and told her that he thought she was trying to ‘set him up,'” the affidavit read.
He allegedly said, “If I’m going down for this, I’m going to f*ck the sh*t out of you.”
The victim told police he raped her twice.
After the alleged assaults, Belmont stole her clothes and locked her in the bedroom, refusing to let her leave.
“Jason would not allow her to leave,” the affidavit stated. “[The victim] said that she attempted to do so more than (12) times, but Jason would block the door and either flex his muscles or ‘posture.'”
Belmont eventually allowed his estranged wife to leave, and she reported the assault to the police as she drove to The Medical Center of Aurora to undergo a sexual assault examination.
The affidavit noted that the victim “started to cry with every response she made.”
Adams County Sheriff Doug Darr released a statement on Wednesday acknowledging that Belmont — who has been on the force since 2004 — had been arrested, and that “he is obviously disappointed and extremely upset” and the alleged behavior of his deputy.
