A 5-year-old boy was shot to death by his father in Philadelphia last night, the Inquirer reports.
Cion Styles was shot in the head by his father, Tyrell, who also shot the boy's mother Shyema Washington in the face, midsection, and buttocks. After a short police chase, Tyrell Styles turned the gun on himself.
According to CSNPhilly.com, Cion and his mother were attending a birthday party Saturday night when Tyrell arrived to pick up his son at approximately 11:00 p.m. Shyema Washington went inside to retrieve the sleeping child, and when she came back outside, Tyrell pulled a Ruger 9 mm on her and began shooting.
As Sheyma staggered, authorities say Tyrell walked up to his son and shot him twice -- once in the head, and again in the ankle. He then fled the scene in a white Pontiac Grand Prix.
Police put out an all points bulletin on the car, which was quickly spotted running red lights as it sped away from the scene. After a short chase, police cornered the vehicle in a dead end, and when officers approached the car, Tyrell shot himself in the head.
Tyrell Styles is currently on life support at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, while Shyema Washington is in critical condition at Crozer-Chester Hospital.
