In an interview with World Net Daily, former GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin blasted mainstream Republicans for refusing to stand behind conservative ideologues, like himself, and against “the Democrat liberal media machine.”
Akin noted that mainstream Republicans are so “afraid of that…that they’re unwilling to go and rescue their wounded,” much like he was after he claimed that women who are “legitimately raped” do not get pregnant because their bodies have a way “to shut that whole thing down.”
“If you think about it,” Akin continued, “it’s not just the dumb things that Democrat liberals say, it’s the dumb things they do — and the media never calls them out on it. Let me give you an extreme contrast.”
“Here it is: ‘Todd Akin says “legitimate rape” instead of “legitimate case of rape”‘ and didn’t immediately identify that stress is what I was talking about. Those things are taken out of context,” he claimed, “they get distorted.”
“‘Todd Akin says women can’t get pregnant if they’re raped,’ is what they said, when that’s the opposite of what I said,” Akin added. “So all of the sudden, I go from respectable congressman to the worst criminal in the world, the leader of the war on women, in a couple of weeks.”
“Now go forward two weeks, just for the raw hypocrisy of the thing,” he went on, “and you have Bill Clinton as the keynote speaker at the Democrat convention. Now if you set aside the sworn testimony [of Juanita Broaddrick] that Bill Clinton raped her — now, let’s just say she’s making that all up, which I don’t believe. You still have a man with an extensive history of sexual abuse and sexual indecency to women.”
“And what happens after he speaks?” Akin asked, rhetorically. “Everybody claps for him. To me, that’s affirming everything he is, who he is, what he stands for. To me, that’s a Democrat war on women.”
