FERGUSON Mo. (Reuters) – Ferguson, Missouri, Police Chief Thomas Jackson said on Wednesday the officer involved in the shooting of a black, unarmed teenager last weekend had been injured during the incident and was treated in the hospital for swelling on the side of his face.

The officer involved has not been named.

Jackson told a news conference he could not release any more information on the shooting because witness statements are still coming in.

Jackson said the priority for the town of Ferguson right now is improving race relations that have been badly damaged by the shooting in the largely black town with a mostly white police force.

He said his department was always trying to improve diversity in its ranks. “It is a constant struggle to hire and retain personnel,” he said.

In early March, the coronavirus exploded across the state of Michigan, infecting more than 5,500 people with nearly 1,000 new people getting the virus daily. Despite knowing that the virus was deadly and very contagious, Trump blamed Whitmer for not doing enough for her own people. Speaking on CNN this Thursday, veteran journalist Carl Bernstein addressed recent comments from Nancy Pelosi where she expressed her worry that President Trump is in an "altered state" in the wake of his steroid treatment for coronavirus.

According to Bernstein, the White House is in the "midst of a coverup of Donald Trump's mental and physical condition, and his doctors are part of the coverup under his orders. That much we know."

Berstein went on to say that he's talked to some Republicans in the Senate who are "furious, concerned, worried about the President's mental health, physical health, and they want some disclosure of what the real facts are here."
