Colorado woman pointed rifle at kids over boy practicing the clarinet in yard
It has been said that the only thing worse than the sound of a clarinet is the sound of two clarinets, but a Clifton, Colorado woman is facing charges after she reportedly menaced a group of children with a rifle because one of them — an 11-year-old boy — was practicing the clarinet outside.
The Associated Press reported that Mesa County sheriff’s deputies arrested 60-year-old Cheryl Ann Pifer at her residence on Wednesday afternoon after she threatened the children.
Officers said that Ms. Pifer appeared to be in a state of considerable intoxication at the time of arrest and that they believe she had been drinking prior to their arrival.
The boy told the Daily Sentinel that he explained to Pifer that he had to practice the clarinet as part of his homework and that he couldn’t go inside because a baby was sleeping.
The six other children in the back yard said that Pifer also aimed the weapon at them and shouted “Fire in the hole!” as they ran for cover.
Deputies reported that the rifle wasn’t loaded and that Pifer has been booked into Mesa County Jail on possible charges of child abuse and felony menacing.
