A college wrestler attending Minnesota State University – Moorhead is under arrest after inviting his floor-mates to view a half-naked 18-year-old coed he got drunk before taking her to his room where he filmed himself sexually assaulting her.
Angel Mario Vega, 23, was charged on Wednesday in Clay County District Court with one count of felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a helpless victim, and with one count of providing alcohol to someone under 21, reported the Forum of Fargo-Moorhead.
Responding to a call, police entered Vega’s dorm in Grantham Hall on the MSUM campus where they discovered one woman lying ion a bed vomiting into a trashcan, with another woman lying on the floor unconscious, partially undressed, having vomited upon herself.
According to police, Vega bent down, grabbed the woman on the floor and told her to be quiet when he saw the police enter the room.
After sending the unconscious woman to the hospital, police say Vega’s roommate told them that they had invited the women back to their room to play ‘drinking games.’
Four other students on their floor told police that Vega encouraged them to come to the lounge area and “see something crazy.” When the students arrived they found the woman drunk and lying topless on the couch, they told police.
After Vega picked the young woman up, saying he was going to take her to his room and “get laid” the students called dorm security who alerted the police.
Armed with a search warrant, police discovered several items of women’s clothing in Vega’s room, as well as video on Vega’s phone showing him forcing the woman to have sex with him, according to court documents.
Speaking with police, Vega denied knowing how the woman’s clothing ended up in his room as well as stating that he didn’t take the video and photos of the victim found on his phone. He did admit to giving the young woman Fireball whiskey, despite knowing she was only 18.
According to police, the victim’s blood alcohol level measured 0.235 percent at the hospital.
Vega was arrested and bail was set at $60,000. He is expected back in court on Sept. 12.
