New York man shot 15 minutes after release from prison
After spending 15 years in prison, a New York man was shot and wounded within minutes of being released, state police said on Friday.
The 33-year-old man, whose name was not disclosed, had intended to catch a train from the prison in Otisville, New York, on Thursday morning. Instead, he accepted a ride from two men in a car with Illinois license plates, said police spokesman Trooper Steven Nevel.
He was shot within 15 minutes of his release after serving a sentence for an assault conviction, Nevel said.
“He got out of the vehicle and stumbled over to the train station,” where people came to his aid and called the police, Nevel said. The man was hospitalized and is recovering from his injuries.
Police arrested the two men who gave him a ride, but it was not clear whether they had been charged.
