Vandals destroy Okla. 10 Commandments monument by ramming it with a car
An unknown person drove a car into the controversial 10 Commandments monument on the grounds of the Oklahoma state capitol, NewsOK reports.
According to police, the stone slab was smashed into several pieces, and John Estus, spokesman for the Oklahoma Office of Management and Enterprise Services, said it was unclear as to whether the monument could be repaired.
Estus also noted that whoever crashed into the monument did so deliberately, as he or she re-positioned ramp equipment already on the site in order to gain access to the capitol grounds.
The 10 Commandments monument — which was donated by State Rep. Mike Ritze (R-Broken Arrow) and conservative Christian groups — became a matter of national interest after the Satanic Temple claimed that the capitol must also accept its donation of a 7-foot tall goat-headed statue of Baphomet or risk being sued for discrimination.
