A Chicago woman was hospitalized and in critical condition on Friday night after a man shot her before killing himself with the same gun, WLS-TV reported.

The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. local time at a Nordstrom located in the city's "Magnificent Mile" area downtown. The woman is reportedly a seasonal employee at the store. The man, described by police as a current or possibly former boyfriend, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities referred to the attack as a "domestic-related incident."

"She was working up on the second floor when he approached her, fired one shot, which struck her," chief detective John J. Escalante said. "He then turned the gun to himself, shot and killed himself."

The store, which was allegedly full of patrons as part of the post-Thanksgiving "Black Friday" shopping rush, was quickly evacuated following the incident and remained closed late Friday night.

"It was a pow and a pow," one shopper, Michelle Smith, told the Chicago Tribune. "It was a stampede coming down the escalator."
