WATCH: Woman in high-speed chase levels abandoned building with stolen car
A Kansas City woman, chased by police in a high speed pursuit after allegedly stealing an SUV, leveled an entire building last week when she lost control of the car, reports The Kansas City Star.
In video captured by a security camera above a parking lot, the car can be seen hurtling through an intersection before making a left turn and slamming into the building.
According to police, the white SUV had been reported stolen earlier, with an officer spotting the car and giving pursuit as the woman ran stoplights at speeds up to 80 mph .
“She didn’t stop driving like crazy,” said Kansas City Police Capt. Chris Sicoli.
At one point the woman lost control of the car, striking a fire hydrant before slamming into the two-story building which collapsed upon the vehicle.
An eyewitness, Cynthia Bell, said she noticed the white SUV traveling at a high speed before the crash.
“I said, ‘Something is going to end up happening,’ and lo and behold, something ended up happening,” Bell said.
According to police the building was vacant, with the owner, Chris Willsey, saying he kept about a dozen unrestored vehicles from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s inside the structure.
The unidentified driver taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
