Walmart trucker: Tracy Morgan was in a limo when I hit him so he can’t be broke
The Walmart truck-driver who caused the June 6 accident that killed one man and left comedian Tracy Morgan critically injured says that Morgan can’t be in financial trouble following the crash because he was rich enough to be riding in a limousine on the night in question.
TMZ reported that trucker Kevin Roper is scoffing at reports of Morgan’s precarious financial state.
Morgan and others impacted in the crash are suing Walmart for negligence, saying that Roper was sleep-deprived on the night of the accident because of his demanding schedule as a long-haul trucker.
Roper — who pleaded not guilty to charges of vehicular homicide and assault — filed documents on Thursday with the court asking that the civil case against him be halted until his criminal case is resolved.
In the documents, said the New York Daily News, Roper said that his own financial problems are greater than the actor’s and cited the fact that Morgan and his party were riding in a chauffeured limousine when the crash took place.
Morgan reportedly wants to press ahead with the negligence suit against Walmart because his injuries have left him unable to work. He sustained a traumatic brain injury in the crash, broken ribs and a broken leg. His longtime friend and mentor James McNair died in the collision.
