A Florida man was arrested on Tuesday after police said that he accidentally shot and killed his friend while acting out lyrics to a song.
A press release from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said that the shooting occurred while 17-year-old Douglas Trey Winslow was visiting the home of 22-year-old Rodney Clay Patrick Jr. on Monday.
The statement said that the two men were listening to music, and Patrick began using a firearm to act out the lyrics of a song. Patrick did not realize the gun was loaded, and shot Winslow, the release indicated.
According to WFTV, 911 calls from the home after the shooting told a different story. The caller said that Winslow had shot himself.
Deputies did not say what the men were listening to when Winslow was shot, but they described it to WFTV as a “rap song.”
Patrick was booked on charges of Manslaughter with a Firearm, Tampering with Evidence and the Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was being held without bond at the Brevard County Jail.
