WATCH: The Young Turks’ exclusive video of protesters being arrested at Supreme Court
In exclusive video obtained by the Young Turks, members of the Citizens United protest group 99Rise can be heard shouting at Supreme Court Justices while the court is in session.
Cenk Uygur introduces the video by noting this video is “historic, [as] they don’t allow cameras inside the Supreme Court. It’s only the second time it’s ever happened.”
As the video begins, one of the protesters can be heard shouting, “One person, one vote!”
“Money is not speech — separate wealth and state,” yells another.
“We are the 99 percent,” shouts another.
As each of the 99Rise activists speaks, they are tackled to the ground and removed by security. According to Supreme Court public information officer Kathleen L. Arberg, the protesters were arrested for making “a harangue or oration, or uttering loud, threatening or abusive language in the Supreme Court.”
When asked why the group did it, 99Rise activist Curt Ries said that “we have seen the consequences of the free flow of private money rushing into our public political system. Nearly $4 billion was spent in the 2014 Mid-Term Elections, and almost all of it came from a handful of wealthy individuals and organizations.”
