The response by conservative cultural and political writers to the subject of race and gender at last night's 87th Academy Award ceremony was, to put it lightly, less than ideal.

Breitbart Hollywood's Editor-at-Large John Nolte, for example, aimed to prove that liberals are the real racists by tracking every time anyone applauded anything related to the film Selma:

Nolte wasn't the only conservative to notice that these Academy Awards were all about race:

Some conservatives even hijacked the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag to make some casting suggestions:

When racism failed, conservatives had some other old saws to rely on. National Review's Jonah Goldberg apparently didn't get Reese Witherspoon's memo that people should focus on more than a woman's appearance, as he spent much of the evening commenting on exactly that:

Comic Larry the Cable Guy couldn't help himself either:

Basically, they just weren't very happy about women who speak:

Conservative film critic Debbie Schlussel was a little more politically pointed in her criticism of the evening's festivities:

As the previous tweet indicates, she was particularly upset when anything related to Selma or Common and John Legend appeared on screen:

As Raw Story documented, conservatives are not happy about American Sniper losing out to Birdman for best picture, but as one sage individual on Twitter noted:
