With the announcement that South African comedian Trevor Noah will be filling the very large shoes left behind by popular Daily Show host Jon Stewart, here is a sampling of what you can expect.
Although Noah is relatively unknown to American audiences, his rapid-fire delivery on subjects ranging from the American obsession with sports statistics to why U.S. hip-hop stations censor the lyrics of the songs seem universal.
“Why would they do that?” he asks about hip-hop censorship. “Surely everyone listening to a hip-hop station knows what hip-hop is all about. Like, is there somebody who listens to hip-hop that doesn’t like the cussing particularly? Who are the people that made these laws? Who was the person who said, ‘You know what, I just can’t handle the cussing? I can’t handle it. Please, cut that out, but keep the misogyny. Keep that in.’ ”
Noah is expected to take over The Daily Show later this year after Stewart steps down.
