A white Tennessee girl sent her regrets after she was invited to a friend’s birthday sleepover, saying she was unable to attend because her father is racist.

Harmony Jones invited classmates from Highland Oaks Elementary to her birthday party Friday, but one friend wrote her a note explaining why she couldn’t come, reported WREG-TV.

“Maybe I will not be able to go to your birthday sleepover because my dad will not let me go because you are black,” the friend wrote.

She insisted, in multi-colored girlish handwriting, that she was "not trying to be races (sic)."

Christopher Jones said he was surprised when his daughter showed him the letter.

“It angered me a little bit, (and) it hurt me that my 10-year-old girl had to deal with this, and I myself never thought I would have to deal with this,” Jones said.

He said Harmony’s birthday party was successful, even without one of her friends.

“I guess us as parents need to be more aware and conscious about what we teach our children,” Jones said.
