The man who got in Fox News contributor Geraldo Rivera's face, saying “I want you and Fox News to get out of Baltimore City,” blamed the escalation of hostilities on the streets of Baltimore on "outside agitators."

But he was talking about Fox News personalities.

In email correspondence with Media Matters for America, activist Kwame Rose said he confronted the self-promoting Rivera because he was tired of the media misrepresenting the protests.

"I have been out protesting for almost two weeks now without being on one camera," Rose wrote. "After Monday night when the media started pouring in, I sat at work and watched how the media basically forced people to believe that Baltimore was some Third World city. I just wanted to set the record straight and let it be known that this generation refuses to be misinterpreted."

He added, "I sat and watched the media set up their camps in front of boarded up homes ... while we were cleaning up the streets as one community. The cameras weren't rolling, nobody cared. Outside agitators such as Fox News came onto the scene trying to exploit the situation. I don't care about the people watching Fox News, but I will not let you report lies about the people of this city."

In the confrontation with Rivera, the Fox pundit labeled Rose and other protesters "vandals" before yelling at Rose, "You’re making a fool of yourself!”

Rose snapped back at him, “We don’t want your false coverage.”

Rose is not the only one to criticize Rivera and the Fox pundits for being outsiders inflaming tensions.

WBAL 1090 radio host Bryan Nehman also called Rivera out, saying, "You’re also an agitator, in a way, because you’re there and the attention that you bring and the attention that the cameras bring just draw more people out to the streets.”

Rivera responded by blaming all of the attention on his celebrity.

“I’m just the most famous person. I am a lightning rod in that regard. But I can’t allow my celebrity to prevent me from doing my job. I didn’t seek out those young people who were so aggressive toward me,” he said.

Rivera later added, “What do you want? Do you want me to stay home?"
