A 26-year-old Oklahoma woman is accused of desecrating a dead woman's body and cutting her hair during the pre-funeral viewing, KTRK-TV reported on Tuesday.
Shaynna Smith was charged with illegal dissection of a human body for allegedly slashing the woman from her hairline to the tip of her nose. No motive has been established for the alleged attack, but the 38-year-old woman reportedly used to date Smith's current boyfriend.
KJRH-TV reported that, according to Tulsa police, Smith also took the deceased woman's shoes, then went to the bereaved family's home and asked for some of her jewelry, "under the pretense that she was sent there to receive jewelry so that she could take it back and put it on the deceased for viewing."
Authorities arrested Smith inside the dead woman's apartment. Smith was carrying a knife with the woman's hair on it, as well as a box-cutter.
"This is what we were thinking of during the funeral," a member of the victim's family told KJRH. "This was what was on our minds. It wasn't dealing with our own personal grief. It's dealing with anger we shouldn't have in the first place."
