Bernie Sanders tells Ellen DeGeneres: 'Boxers or briefs' -- for charity
Ellen DeGeneres interviews Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in footage from his Oct. 15 appearance on her talk show.

While Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) typically sticks to policy-oriented questions on the campaign trail, he agreed to let talk show host Ellen DeGeneres ask more personal questions for charity, in a clip from his appearance on her show on Thursday.

"Have you ever been in handcuffs?" she asked.

Sanders answered that he had, then quickly added, "I don't know exactly what you mean by that. I take it to mean was I ever arrested by the police."

"No, not necessarily," she responded.

"When I was young, I was involved in a civil rights demonstration and I was arrested," he explained.

"Alright, let's call it a 'civil rights demonstration," DeGeneres said, making air quotes.

DeGeneres later got even more personal, asking, "Boxers or briefs?" The Democratic presidential candidate admitted to wearing briefs. She also asked Sanders who had the better hairstyle -- himself or Donald Trump?

"That goes without saying," he said, motioning toward his own hair.

The host said that in recognition of Sanders being a good sport, one of her show's sponsors would donate $10,000 towards breast cancer research.
