Bill Nye rips Big Oil: They push idea that even a little doubt invalidates climate change
“Science Guy” Bill Nye criticized the fossil fuel industry in a panel discussion with Nightly Show host Larry Wilmore on Tuesday, saying that it was responsible for climate change denial within the US.
“We love them, we depend on them,” Nye said. “But they have worked really hard to introduce this idea that scientific uncertainty, plus or minus 4.8 percent, is the same as doubt about the whole thing, and that’s wrong. I want us to move forward, to embrace wind power and solar power.”
That inaction, Nye argued, had global consequences.
“We are the ones lagging,” he told Wilmore. “If the US were leading, everybody would be on board.”
While Nye defended electric cars — “It costs about a fifth as much to run an electric car as a gas-powered car,” he said — fellow panelist Bridget Everett had her own suggestion for helping companies like Tesla reach conservative audiences.
“Maybe people would start paying attention if Megyn Kelly hopped on the hood of a Hybrid, you know, rolled out to some Tea Party town hall meetings spread-legged like Tawny Kitaen,” she said.
