A Donald Trump supporter in Nebraska who displayed a sign describing President Barack Obama as a “n***er” was confronted by an African-American reporter and agreed to remove the sign after admitting it might be “a little” racist.

WOWT reporter John Chapman interviewed Steve Bowman, a white man living in northeast Omaha, on Tuesday morning. Bowman’s home was festooned with a sign in his window announcing he is a supporter of GOP candidate Trump. He also displayed a sign that said “n***er Obama.”

“Well I grew up in the 60’s,” Bowman said when asked by Chapman if he thought the Obama sign was too much. “I remember racial riots. I know Martin Luther King. I’m 57 so I grew up in the late 50’s early 60’s and I know what it’s like the water guns the racial riots and Birmingham. You know the south, I know all about it. I have a master’s degree in history.”

He then admitted, “It might be a little racist.”

It so happens that Bowman lives across the street from an African-American family, with two young girls.

“He’s been putting up stuff like that constantly. Constantly putting up stuff like that and I’ll bring it up to him gently, you know, ‘take that down please you know this is not the neighborhood for that’” neighbor Regina Wright told WOWT. “He understands and he will take it down after I mention it to him, but then he’ll put something else up.”

After discussing the matter with Chapman, Bowman decided to take the sign down.

‘Trump became what we feared’: New Lincoln Project ad accuses Trump of using the Bible as a prop to boost his polls

Published

A brutal new ad from the GOP group The Lincoln Project called "War Zone" is attacking President Donald Trump for becoming what Americans have feared he would.

He didn't come out of hiding this week to help calm the nation or to bring Americans together.

"He wasn't there to offer words of calm and comfort," the ad said. "Instead, he became what we all feared. Evoked the worst of our past. Threatened our governors and states. He ordered our own soldiers who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan to flood the streets, instructing them to turn against Americans. Used churches and the Holy Bible as political props. He didn't invoke the Lord to give us wisdom, but to boost his polls."

You can’t get anywhere near Lafayette Park today since police expanded their perimeter. There are national guard and what look like federal corrections officers blocking 16th street, but about half these guys don’t have visible insignia or badges. pic.twitter.com/U1KtRnSpVj

‘There is great distrust of the entire system’: CNN reporter says protesters want the Hennepin attorney to resign

Published

on

On CNN Wednesday, correspondent Miguel Marquez reported that while Minnesota civil rights activists will approve of the upgraded charges against the police officers involved in the death of George Floyd, they also want accountability for Mike Freeman, the Hennepin County Attorney who initially declined to charge every officer.

"Those protesters will be pleased, absolutely happy to hear these charges have now been brought, but they will want more," said Marquez. "Specifically, they do want the County Attorney, Mike Freeman, the Hennepin County Attorney, who initially had this case and then turned it over to the attorney general, they want him to resign. They're also upset with the governor and his handling of it."
