Indiana man charged with ‘scalping’ girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter
Andrew Milburn

An Indiana man faces felony charges after he was accused of yanking the scalp from a 3-year-old girl's head by her hair.

Andrew Millburn, of Frankfort, was arrested Tuesday evening on a charged of battery resulting in serious bodily injury to a person younger than 14, reported the Kokomo Tribune.

The girl was hospitalized Feb. 23 after her mother discovered swelling on the side of her head, after the girl returned with Milburn from visiting his parents in Russellville.

The 35-year-old Milburn, the mother's boyfriend, said the girl must have fallen from a chair at his parents' home.

But doctors said the injuries, including internal bleeding, were consistent with "scalping" -- when the scalp is forcibly removed from the skull, causing extensive bruising and swelling.

The case was investigated by child protective services and then turned over to the Howard County Prosecutor's Office, which recommended the Level 3 felony charge.

Milburn was ordered held on $25,000 bond.
