An elderly oil billionaire said he's willing to risk the potential disaster of a Donald Trump presidency because he won't live long enough to experience the harm.

T. Boone Pickens, the 87-year-old corporate raider and financier who switched his allegiance to Trump after Jeb Bush dropped out of the Republican presidential race, suggested he'd like to watch an inexperienced person try to perform the duties of president, reported the Wall Street Journal.

"I’m tired of having politicians as president of the U.S.,” Pickens said. “Let’s try something different.”

Pickens, who made donations to failed GOP candidates Bush, Carly Fiorina and Ben Carson, last year proposed a “bipartisan screening committee" to help find qualified presidential candidates -- and he singled out Trump as unqualified for office.

“We have people running for president now who don’t even have experience running a lemonade stand,” Pickens said last year. “We’ve turned our presidential selection process into a reality TV show. Hell, it’s worse than reality TV. Why? Because this reality TV show is about the selecting the leader of the Free World.”

But the billionaire businessman has apparently changed his tune, saying he was intrigued by Trump's proposal to ban Muslims from entering the U.S.

Pickens said he wasn't all that concerned about what might happen if Trump turns out to be as unsuited to become Leader of the Free World.

“I’m ready to take a chance on it,” said Pickens, who turns 88 later this month. “And just in case it’s a mistake, [I’ll] be gone.”
