Republican congressmen like to complain a lot about how President Obama is handling the fight against Islamic State — but what do they actually want him to do differently?
CNN’s Chris Cuomo nailed Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI) with this exact question when Duffy demanded that Obama take stronger action to defeat ISIS. Cuomo also pointed out that Congress has done nothing in its role of overseeing foreign policy, pointing out that Duffy’s GOP colleagues haven’t even met Obama’s request for authorization of force against ISIS.
“I don’t know what you’re asking for that isn’t done right now,” said Cuomo. “The generals do say they can take out ISIS, but we know what they’re asking for: They’re asking for boots on the ground. You’re part of a Congress that won’t even have a vote on the authorization for use of military force against ISIS.”
Duffy responded that Obama supposedly has “all the authority he needs” to defeat ISIS based on the authority that Congress gave to George W. Bush well over a decade ago. Cuomo, however, wasn’t having any of it.
“If it matters so much, why not take control of it with the power that’s yours?” he asked.
